My husband just had a 2000 Yamaha, VStar,
650 Custom, delivered for me on Saturday.
It is sitting in the garage (untitled
with 1 mile on it). The 1 mi. came from me riding
it down the street and deciding it was too heavy.
I am 5'-4", 110 lbs., haven't ridden in about 20
yrs., and I'm 38 yrs. old.
Yesterday I went down to the Yamaha/Suzuki dealer
to try and find something more comfortable and dis-
covered the LS650 Savage. It is a new '99 (black),
comes with $400 worth of accessories and they want
$3994 for it. They said they would trade for my
VStar and give me $800 cash. That means I would
only get $4800 for VStar. It retails for $5600.
I read all of the postings on this page last night
and feel very confused. I don't want a bike that is
going to require a lot of maintenance and has a lot
of quirks, but I do want something I feel secure
riding. I also don't want the hassle of selling my
brand new VStar myself, but I don't want to take a
huge loss.
BTW, the salesman kept saying that there is no reason
why I can't ride the VStar other than fear. I almost
layed it down in the driveway! He said he knows of
2 women in particular, smaller than myself, who have
no problem with it. It just takes practice.
I do want to take the training course (haven't been
able to reach anyone and they don't return my
messages.
I also went to H.D./Honda dealer and sat on a
H.D. Hugger 883. Felt pretty good but
they wanted $2000 over retail for it ($7200). No way!
Husband says don't worry about the money, just get
something you will be happy with. ughh!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was up all
night worrying about this. Sorry this is so long.
Ann
